Three Ways to Learn at SdCS
Choose how you learn through in person, live streamed, or competency based training designed to equip you for ministry.
In-Person Learning
In person learning at SdCS takes place on our campus in Westcliffe, Colorado. Classes are offered for credit or audit in the classroom, library, and chapel on campus.
On-campus learning is conducted from early June through mid-December. Learning from January through May is typically facilitated in close proximity to the student’s practical ministry site.
Live-Streamed Learning
Live-streamed learning at SdCS is usually simulcasted from our campus in Westcliffe, Colorado. Occasionally, an adjunct instructor will initiate their own broadcast.
These classes are offered for credit or audit to students in remote proximity to our campus. Live-streamed learning is conducted from early June through mid-December.
Competency-Based Theological Education (CBTE)
CBTE encourages students to demonstrate sufficient mastery of an aspect of their educational path by achieving “competencies.” Students work with seminary-appointed mentors to guide them in preparation for proving their competence for ministry.
The required competencies are a combination of about 10-15 core and specialty competencies. Students may come with prior competence or acquire learning through classes, live-streaming, reading and listening to supportive educational materials in order to put their learning into practice in an internship, practicum, or other on-the-job-training type settings.
No courses, classes, nor credit are required to learn in this way. Though, all of these methods may be used by the student to hone their skills in preparation to demonstrate competence.
